Pollution and diminishing energy resources are problems that cross political boundaries and generational divides. Pollution must be addressed through a sophisticated understanding of science, market behaviors, and public policy. Energy efficiency is the lowest cost approach to solving current energy limitations. Buildings account for 40% of U.S. energy consumption and embed a minimum potential for 25-50% energy use reduction. In addition, one study shows that 80% of “green” building is energy-related.
SENTECH utilizes its blend of specialists to create and implement workable solutions to today’s pollution and energy problems resulting from buildings. SENTECH’s Sustainable Buildings Team provides consulting services to organizations developing or implementing policy and programs aimed at encouraging energy efficiency and reducing pollution. The Team consists of building scientists, engineers, architects, analysts, marketing and communication experts, event planners, program administrators, and others. SENTECH’s work in this area is geared toward helping clients alter the shape of markets to ensure sustainable practices for lasting results.
Currently, the Sustainable Buildings Team is supporting a number of organizations including the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), and energy-related private sector organizations. Sample projects encompass providing planning, technical, and implementation support to EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Service and Products Providers program, Maryland’s Home Performance and School’s Energy Efficiency programs, DOE’s Weatherization and Intergovernmental Program, and the DOE-EPA Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program.
